We are an R&D company established in 2024 by a core group of current and former researchers in the Advanced Railway Technology Group (ARTGroup) at the University of South Carolina (USC). Insight Rail works closely with USC and our network of affiliated researchers at USC and other academic institutions to develop and transfer cutting-edge technologies for railway infrastructure to the freight and passenger railway industry.
Dimitris Rizos, President & CEO Insight Rail LLC, has over 30 years experience in structural mechanics, structural dynamics, soil-structure interaction with applications in highway and railway trasportation infrastructure. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina (USC) and is the director of the Advanced Railway Technology Group at USC, and the Associate Director of the USDOT University Transportation Center for Railway Safety. He is a Professor and a leading researcher in railroad infrastructure and structural mechanics with emphasis on railway dynamics, vehicle track interaction, and remote sensing for monitoring and damage and change detection. He has been directing sponsored research projects for the last 30 years, including railway engineering related R&D projects that led to patented technologies.
Brennan L. Gedney is the Chief Technical Officer. He holds an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of South Carolina. His work centers on structural change and damage detection, system identification, and advanced inspection techniques, with a strong emphasis on moving research into practical tools the industry can use.
He brings expertise in experimental testing, computer modeling and simulations, and has been actively involved in sponsored international research projects, most recently advancing non-contact Rail Neutral Temperature (RNT) estimation techniques.
